2006 Report

The Annual Convocation and Awards Ceremony was held on Saturday, 29th April, 2006 at the Ashok Hotel, New Delhi. Over 200 persons attended.

ChiefGuest Hon. Shri. P. Hota, Secretary Health, Government of India, who has given the India Sri Lanka Section many promises for involvement in Community Health Services, participated in the ceremony by presenting Fellowship Certificates.

Open to all Dental Surgeons, Dental Students, and Dental Colleges in India & Sri
Lanka.

4. ICD APPRECIATION AWARDS AND ORATION AWARDS - For ICD Fellows and
Speakers for the Continuing Education Programmes, Oration Lectures, and Social   
Programmes in different Zones of India and Sri Lanka.

5. ICD JOURNAL  - Issued Quarterly
Distributed to all ICD Fellows, all Dental Colleges and all Libraries

6. CHARITY CLINICS FOR THE POOR
The ICD has participated in Charity Clinics for the poor people and has plans for
Charity Dental Vans to visit different parts of Delhi and surrounding areas offering
free Dental Check ups and Treatment.

7. CHILDREN'S SCHOOL DENTAL CHECKUP PROGRAMMES
ICD Fellows have conducted more than 80,000 Children's Checkup Programmes.

The ICD Convocation and Award Function for 2004 was held at Mashrabiya Hotel Ashok New Delhi on Sunday 1st of May, 2005.

The scientific programme with an oration lecture from fellow Dr. Mrs. Avinash Talwar was held on at the same place. The topic for the oration lecture was microdentistry, which was followed by interaction by fellow participants including students from various colleges in India. The scientific proramme was sponsored by Colgate Palmolive.

The AGM was followed by the convocation with president Dr. V.M. Veerabahu and Sec. Gen. Dr. J.C. Chandna leading the fellows. Eight new fellows were inducted and given the fellowship after the ceremonial capping and oath ceremony.

The names of the new fellows inducted were:

3. Dr. Jagdish S. Hiregoundar, Bangalore
4. Dr. S.M. Balaji, Chennai
5. Dr. Sunita Gupta, New Delhi
6. Dr. M.L.V. Prabhuji, Bangalore
7. Dr. (Capt.) Ashok Chhabra, New Delhi
8. Dr. Praveen Verma, New Delhi

Sec. Gen. Dr. J.C. Chandna repeatedly stressed upon the new and old fellows to participate more actively in increasing the icd activities in all the zonal regions in any form like CDE programmes, interaction and dental health programmes.

The surprise of the day was president Dr. Veerabahu wedding anniversary on the same day, and a cake cutting was done by Dr. Veerabahu and his wife as it was a surpirse announcement.

Two essay competition awards both for first and second position were also given for the essay competition winners which is held every year.

Oration lecture and award to fellow Dr. (Mrs.) Avinash Talwar, appreciation award to fellows for their services were given by president Dr. Veerabahu and Sec. Gen. Dr. Chandna.

Sec. Gen. Dr. Chandna thanked all fellows helping him to organize the function and specially Dr. Y.K. Virmani for making the ICD website and keeping it upto date with ICD news and all the efforts he has put in.

Dr. Anil Kohli president DCI, past president ICD and international councilman ICD was honoured by the ICD fellows for his achivements and many national awards, the Padmabhushan and Dr. B.C. Roy award

New incoming president Dr. S.S. Sachdeva took over as the ICD president (India & Sri Lanka section), 2005 from Dr. V.M. Veerabahu. Dr. Sachdeva also stressed upon the need to increase the ICD activities by all fellows in all the zones. He was sure that he would have a very active year and asked all fellows to participate whole heartedly.

Sec. Gen. Dr. J.C. Chandna welcomed Dr. Bhagwant Singh, president Ida and other doctors from Sri Lanka, Mynammar and Nepal with flowers as special guests to attend the function.

New president Dr. S.S. Sachdeva and Dr. Chandna thanked all fellows and participants for making the function a grand success.

The convocation was followed by cocktail and dinner which saw all the fellows, students, participants from different parts of the country interacting and having a good time together.

All fellows appreciated the function and thanked the organizers for a really great evening.
